Request for historical weather data to try pattern recogition methods, by the Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis Research Lab, University of Salford, UK
Justin Hayes, Data Modelling Lead, wrote on 27 September 2019:
‘Over the past four years we’ve been developing methods to recover, integrate and transform large volumes of historical data from printed tables and forms into structured and operable digital data. We've recently completed a project with the UK Office for National Statistics in which we created a digital version of previously unpublished small area statistics from the UK 1961 Census containing over 15 million values recovered from 140,000 digital images of paper printouts. ONS are due to release this data around the end of 2019. We're now looking to try our methods on other interesting and, ideally, socially beneficial historical data. Historical data on weather/climate seems like a good candidate. Is there someone who I could be put in touch with about this idea?’
